Fleets at War: Theater of Operations now available!

Fleets at War: Theater of Operations is now available! As an added bonus, you can buy the game at 15% due to the DriveThruRPG sci-fi month promotion!

http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/149755/Imperium-Chronicles--Fleets-at-War-Theater-of-Operations

Fleets at War: Theater of Operations (F@W:ToO) is a strategic wargame set in the Imperium Chronicles universe. The game represents the large scale organization and resource management of the Imperium and the Magna Supremacy during armed conflict, most recently the Third Imperium-Magna War.

Theater of Operations is designed with ease of play in mind, including rules that are simple to learn and execute.

One player takes the role of the Imperium while the other player controls the Magna Supremacy. Each side starts the game with a fleet of ships that can be placed anywhere on their side of the demilitarized zone (DMZ). As the game progresses, each side gets points based on the number of zones on the map they possess. These points are then used to build new ships. The winner is the side that defeats the other player, usually by destroying all of his ships and/or capturing his zones.

When playing Theater of Operations, players can choose to use Fleets at War! rules during tactical combat. In fact, they can also use Fighter Wing rules when carrying out fighter combat. However, neither is necessary to play Theater of Operations.

Features

  • Large full-color strategic map (19"x18" divided into 6 sections)
  • 800+ ship counters (full-strength & damaged sides)
  • Straight-forward rules for fast gameplay

In Harm's Way Tactics: Three Ways to Play

In Harm's Way Tactics can be played in at least three ways: skirmish, missions, and campaigns. The first two are available (with examples) "out of the box", while campaigns will be sold separately.

Skirmishes are stand-alone battles similar to the scenarios from my Fleets at War! and Fighter Wing games. Missions are more like mini-adventures with greater detail and which may take longer than a single session to play. Campaigns, on the other hand, will involve linked missions and/or story arcs. They will also include character advancement by increasing attributes and the number of abilities that can be used as they complete missions.

The Pirate's Prey

Here is the art du jour for Planetary Defense. It shows a Pirate Clan snub fighter (from the original Fighter Wing game) trying to outrun three Talion Zakon police interceptors. In the background was the pirate's prey, a Lembu Heavy Barge.

Announcing: Fleets at War: Theater of Operations

There's another project I'm working on that I'm calling Fleets at War: Theater of Operations. It basically adds a strategic element to the Fleets at War line of games, allowing players to move fleets (or at least task forces) around a map of the Imperium-Magna border. Then, when the two sides meet on the strategic map, they can either play out the battle on a tactical map using the counters provided, or use the counters from the original Fleets at War! game.

I'm also including a mechanism for calculating the amount of resources available to each side, based on how many planets they control, which they can then use to purchase additional ships. This will allow players to decide which types of ships they want and organize them as they see fit.

Essentially, Theater of Operations will create a strategic tier, with Fleets at War! in the middle and Fighter Wing in the lowest (most detailed) tier.  If players are especially ambitious, they could play a campaign game with all three levels.

Totals for the New Expansion

I think I've pretty much finalized how many ships Planetary Defense will feature. Just like in Fighter Wing, I'll be using variants for some of the combat ships. Including those, there's going to be 22 new ships including fighters, heavy fighters, attack craft, corvettes, and patrol frigates. There's also two weapon platforms/turrets and two new merchant vessels. I'm also introducing three new weapons: the aphid light missile, anti-sensor missile (ASM), and the Rapid Pulse Plasma (RPP) cannon. Hopefully that'll be enough content... :-)

Planetary Defense: Two Factions; Six Ships

Here are six ships from the Fighter Wing expansion, Planetary Defense. The Warlock Industry faction is at the top and the Celadon Pirates are on the bottom. They include fighters, heavy fighters, and attack craft. Note, some of this might change of course, but I wanted to show what I've been working on...

Celadon Pirates

I was working on the stats for the ships featured in the Fighter Wing expansion. One of the new factions is called the Celadon Pirates. These "goblins" are associated with the Ougluks, green-skinned slavers I included in my Heroes of the Imperium game. Anyway, I worked on a faction emblem for the Celadons and came up with  this. It's not actually celadon-colored because I decided I hate that color. However, I did include the Ougluk logo in the skull to show their association.

Fighter Wing expansion in the works

Sales for Fighter Wing have been doing pretty well so I've been increasing my work on its first expansion, Planetary Defense. At the  moment I have 12 brand new ships planned and might include more. The expansion will include ships for the Imperium and Talion planetary defense forces, plus vessels for two new factions: the Celadon Pirates and the Warlock Industries Megacorporation.

Fighter Wing PDF Nearly Ready

The PDF for Fighter Wing is pretty much done and ready to go. However, I'm going to wait until next weekend (the beginning of May) to publish the game on DriveThruRPG. Also, I'd like to offer the components (counters, etc.) in a printed format and right now I'm waiting for the proof copy to arrive.

In other news, I've been thinking a lot about my board game Heroes of the Imperium. Sales have been severely disappointing except for the free preview (largely because it's free). After Fighter Wing is published, I'll likely discontinue Heroes of the Imperium and try selling some of the components (like the tiles) as stand-alone products. At least that way I might see some return on the work I put into it.
